The beautiful island of Bali! Sun, beaches, nice people and totally relaxing atmosphere! We are confident that the mere mentioning of that Indonesian gem evokes only pleasant feelings and dreams. That is exactly the effect that Dave Rowland – the designer of the Bali Script typeface wanted to achieve with this script. For its creation, he was inspired by the widespread handwritten signage around the island and the laid-back atmosphere they help generating. In order to recreate and convey it, he used things like bolder letterforms and swelled stroke endings. Overall, the appearance of the script is very friendly and easygoing and creates a very positive impression. It would work really well in any project that aims at distinctive individual result and could be used separately or combined with another font.
There are a few remarkable things about Bali Script. Apart from the laid-back appearance, another is the fact that it is virtually packed with OpenType features. Ligatures, contextual alternates, automatic fractions, oldstyle figures, swash alternates, inferior and superior numbers, discretionary ligatures and very rich language support – you just name it! And there is something else that deserves special mention – the stylistic sets. Four of them are provided, changing the letters ‘r”, capital “l”, some caps as well as featuring an underline function.
As it was mentioned above, Bali Script is a brainchild of the British designer Dave Rowland and is released by his Schizotype foundry. He keeps on with his extraordinary and highly varied work, this time taking us to a journey to one of the most beautiful places around the world. Here are some of his remarkable fonts: Flat Sans, Samui Script, Range Sans, Streetscript Redux.
