Carrig typeface is a modern serif font family that is most suitable for display purposes. It is a debut on our site for the West Cork based designer Paulo Goode. Paulo has a big natural talent in the field of art and was originally a technical illustrator. However, he found his calling in the graphic design. Now he has been in the business for more than 15 years practicing as a freelancer.
Part of Paulo Goode’s portfolio is his latest release – Carrig. In fact, it was conceived more than 17 years ago as part of a brand identity project. Now it has become a full fetched font family with distinctive personal appearance. Perhaps, to best describe the nature of this typeface, we should refer to its name with ‘carrig’ being the Gaelic word for “stone” or “rock”. And that is exactly what you get with Carrig – a rigid and solid typeface with a very high legibility that, at the same time, looks friendly and familiar. It is no wonder, as Carrig is a fine mixture of influences from Classic Roman and Old Style influences. On top of that, it offers a lot more personal elements of its own – terminals, serifs, strokes, spurs and, in particular, the very specific combination between high x-heights and short ascenders, that altogether give it its refined elegance.
Carrig family comprises five fonts – Display, Text and Bold with the first two coming with their respective Italics. It is obvious that this typeface is more suitable for display purposes such as titles and headlines but could also be proper for promotion related items, branding and packaging.
