There are occasions in the daily life of the people when they accidently come upon shocking sights and scenes. Of them, few are more distressing than the seizures caused by epilepsy. A disease that has been known from the ancient times, that has been well studied and is yet still not curable. May be, the elusive nature of this illness prompted the Polish designer Mikołaj Grabowski to name his debut font family after it. Or, may be, he quite successfully provokes the public to dig deep behind the appearance of his typeface. Whatever the reason, Epilepsja font family is an outstanding beginning of, we hope, prosperous career in the field of type design.
Technically, Epilepsja typeface is a modern all caps font family that is intended solely for display use. Its inspiration comes from the stencil sprayed inscriptions in the present day cities, hence its contemporary urban appearance. However, we can find traces of many other influences, typical of the today world like 3D, computer games, etc. The letterforms are designed to be simple, yet, true to the font’s name, there appears to be some kind of a disorder when they are lined up in a word. This effect is undoubtedly sought for as is the Epilepsja font’s greatest feature – the opportunity it gives to the users to make their text multicolored, due to the fact that the font family comes in three styles – Outline, which is the basic one, Solid, which provides great legibility and Fill that works great with the other two. All in all, the way it looks and the features it provides, make this typeface perfect for posters, placards, signage, websites, headlines or simply whenever little provocation of mind is intended.
