Grafolita Script font
Grafolita Script font by the Portuguese type and graphic designer Rui Abreu (see also his famous Aria Text, Catacumba Pro, Foral Pro, Orbe Pro, etc.) is a versatile typeface trio performing in three weights – Regular, Medium, and Bold. Excellent flexibility in composing layouts allowing the designers to balance the weights between bigger and smaller letters.
Grafolita Script font in its bold variation originated from a custom font for the same named brand of letterpress products. It was later developed into a complete OpenType font family with a friendly and informal presence alluding to the handwriting, but without trying to imitate it. Instead, the letters shapes and connections are carefully uniformed, thus avoiding the need of special ligatures or alternate letters.
Special attention is paid to the “curled letters” and final letters. Most of the “curled letters” have a simpler alternate, to avoid overcomplicated word images. With the contextual alternates feature, each “curled letter” can be replaced automatically when it appears next to another “curled letter”. Special final forms are designed for some of the letters that appear at the end of the words.
Grafolita Script font’s OpenType features offers some more goodies as the six figure styles allowing combination of numbers and currency symbols in different sizes and baseline-relative positions. Other OpenType extras include discretionary ligatures: “and” ligatures, horizontal lines, etc.
