Kopius by Sibylle Hagmann – a typeface with great ambiance
Kopius is a contemporary serif font family designed by the US based designer Sibylle Hagmann – a graduate of Basel School of design, and published by her Kontour type foundry. This is her debut on our site and we hope to review plenty more of her projects. Apart from Kopius, her font collection includes typefaces like Odile, Axia, Elido and the award winning Cholla. The main interest of Sibylle Hagmann is to create unique typefaces with great focus on details such as individual letterforms and glyph systems.
Her latest work – Kopius font is inspired by the East German typeface Liberta – an Antigua type family, designed by Herbert Thannhaeuser in the 1950’s. Like its predecessor, Kopius is a very functional face that offers one-of-a-kind novel glyph construction. Its robust characters, round and open counters and texture-rich look create great ambiance and provoke feelings of friendliness and relaxation while the slender curved stems account for pleasant and easy reading. Kopius’ colorful appearance creates the illusion of brush stroke, which adds to its unique individuality. All that said, Kopius could be perfect for multiple purposes including display and editorial use and especially for packaging and branding.
Sibylle Hagmann spared no effort to make sure that Kopius will be up to plenty of tasks. The family comprises of 16 fonts. Those include seven weights – Light, Book, Regular, Semibold, Bold, Extrabold and Black, all with their respective Italics. Apart from them, there are two extra fonts with labels and box headings, which could be great solutions for packaging purposes. OpenType features include small caps, fractions, figure sets and more.
