Mauritius font family is designed by Canada type. The original pre-digital design (started in 1965) belongs to Georg Trump for the Weber foundry. The Stuttgart-based foundry presented the type in 1967 under the name Barock-Antiqua, and the next year announced the availability of the metal types (a roman, a bold and an italic). Unfortunately meanwhile the global type industry introduced the cold type technology, thus burying down in history one of the most original text faces ever, designed by one of the most respected type designers.
The digital version of the typeface successfully solves all the issues, associated with the original metal type technology shortcomings, offering an expanded text typeface family of three weights and two widths, with a plenty of modern goodies added.
