Utopique font by the American type designer Benjamin Woodlock (Subtext Office) is a renovation of the Île-de-France sans-serif typeface designed by Enric Crous-Vidal in the early 1960s for the Fonderie Typographique Française. It’s obligatory to mention Crous-Vidal’s contribution to the modern Western typography. Being an apologist for the humanist “Latin Arabesque” as an alternative to the prevailing Geometric graphics and typefaces at that time Enric Crous-Vidal encourages the typographic diversity and deserves a place in the history of Western lettering.
Exaggerated calligraphic strokes and lively energy are evidence for the Utopique font’s unique influence. Utopique font have been developed further with a careful balance and an expanded Latin character set makes it suitable for both display and text settings in the digital age. While some aspects of the design have been updated for contemporary usage, OpenType provides access to original alternate designs. Utopique font introduces contemporary analphabetic characters and old-style figures, as well as a set of experimental logograms meant to address evolving modes of communication.
Utopique font family comes in three weights – Maigre, Demi, and Gras (Regular, Bold, and Black, respectively).
