Adria Slab font
Adria Slab font by Marcus Sterz (FaceType foundry) is the highly successful Adria Grotesk’s Slab Serif sister. Both make a perfect pair for making great typography designs. Following is the Marcus’s story about Adria Slab font family creation process:
“The idea of making a slab serif version came while playing with serifs without any hope it would look good – but it did, so I caught fire instantly. My hopes it would be an easy job did not quite meet reality. Simply adding serifs was not enough. Serifs tend to make a letter look more ‘dense’, especially when it comes to the heavier weights. And so I had to make decision somehow to chuck the serif to keep the letters legible and open.
Adding new symbols was an idea that came in the end right before finishing. I thought there HAVE to be new symbols and they should again be connected to that maritime touch of Adria Slab and Adria Grotesk. That’s why there is an octopus, a sunshade, a captain’s pipe, a palm tree, etc. And again, the symbols evolve by weight, they get thicker, except for the sunshade which is blown away by the wind…”
Adria Slab font consists of seven weights and their beloved upright italics, forming a happy family of 14 fonts.
