ALS FinlandiaScript is a modern script with very elegant and tender appearance. Perhaps it owes its refined look to the fact that it is inspired by the life and work of the renowned Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957) – the author of the famous symphonic opus Finlandia. In his life, Sibeluis had always been fascinated and inspired by the extremely beautiful and picturesque nature of his country with the unsurpassed landscape of Ainola – his home and now – museum, has had a deep impact on his works. All these, combined with his huge talent made Sibelius’ music so powerful that he became a hero and a symbol of his nation.

ALS FinlandiaScript in particular is based on the composer’s writings in his manuscripts. The letterforms are shaped in such manner as to resemble Sibelius’ handwriting without being a perfect match. Thus, the typeface family, although sophisticated, is highly readable and really flows like the beautiful music of the famous composer. The unique look of Finlandia is very suitable for a wide range of applications especially when a personal approach and individual appearance is intended.

Julia Sysmäläinen – the typeface’s designer made a great effort to offer greater choices to the users. Finlandia comes in three general styles – FinlandiaScript, FinlandiaScript Bold and FinlandiaScript Frost. They are created to work differently in the separate sizes – Regular and Bold are perfect for both larger and smaller sizes while Frost works better at headlines. More than 1100 ligatures are provided with extensive language support for over 100 languages with Western, Central European and Cyrillic character sets.

As it was mentioned above, ALS FinlandiaScript is designed by the Finnish designer Julia Sysmäläinen and is released by the Moscow based Art. Lebedev Studio type foundry.
