Download Austral Slab
Austral Slab is a contemporary handwritten font family that is characteristic with its texture and styles.
There are plenty of features that make this typeface unique and that add particular individual appearance and feeling to any project in which it is used. These are, most of all, its layered structure that allows combining the fonts, leading to great distinctive results, the round forms, the irregular outlines and the curving strokes. Moreover, using the different layers, gives you the opportunity to add many contrasting colors, thus making your project more eye-catching and joyful. All these make Austral Slab perfect for plenty of applications such as book covers, logos, branding, stationery, animation, packaging, posters and more.
Austral slab, being a layered typeface, offers a very interesting structure. It comes in six styles – Rough, Blur, Stamp, Rust, Spots, Maplines, each in three weights – Thin, Regular and Light. There is also another great opportunity – to use three different sets of alphabets in lowercase and uppercase, which are included in the OpenType Contextual Alternates. There are also other OpenType features like Ligatures, Discretionary Ligatures, Stylistic Alternates, Superscript, Subscript, Numerators, Denominator, Fractions, Scientific Inferiors, Kerning, etc. Also, there is a very rich language support for a wide range of languages.
Austral Slab was painstakingly designed by the Argentine designer Julia Martinez Diana and is published under the label of her Antipixel type foundry. She firstly drew the font with pencil and then traced them with markers to make the individual weights. Subsequently it was roughly drawn and vectorized, before OpenType and kerning was done. Now Julia makes a nice gesture to those that are willing to take a closer look to Austral Slab by offering Maplines Thin version free of charge.
