CA Capoli is a very interesting modern font with a very curious background. The idea of it came to Thomas Schostok – its designer, while he was on a trip to Italy. There he saw a beautiful inscription on an ashtray. It was the word “Nido”. It immediately caught his attention by being extremely original and distinctive and made him such an impression that he decided to create a font, based on it. However, it was an extremely harsh task to fulfill as the inscription only had four letters. Can you imagine the amount of resourcefulness and creativity needed to achieve such a goal? But, yet again, those are easily found where there are intelligence, talent and skill.
The result of Thomas Schostok’s hard work is CA Capoli – a monoline typeface with pronounced vintage appearance that will immediately take you back in the 1950’s. In fact, the first thing that came in our minds when we first laid our eyes on this great font, were the shiny logos on the fridges of that time. Than we thought of the car and truck logos of that era too. When speaking of logos, we should say that CA Capoli will be perfect when used to create them. This task will be made much easier by the fact that the typeface comes in two styles – Regular and Stroke and offers some great OpenType features like stylistic alternates and discretionary ligatures. It also provides a full Central European character set.
CA Capoli font is the latest creation of the German designer Thomas Schostok and is released under the label of Cape Arcona type foundry – a joint project of Thomas and Stefan Claudius. Their work has always been very professional, as you may see for yourselves by following those links:
