FHA Sign DeVinne is a modern display font that is based on the print typeface DeVinne that was released at the end of the 19th century. It is the first entry on our site for the US foundry Fontry West, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fontry West is a joint project of two very experienced US designers that are in the business for over 20 years – Michael Gene Adkins and James L. Stirling. Having started with the screen and sign painting, they got to the point of designing unique fonts of their own with their collection of Greek fonts being of particular interest. Presently, together with the creation of new fonts the team works on reviving and digitalizing vintage typefaces, making them suitable for use in the modern era.

Their last font family – FHA Sign DeVinne is such a project. It is based on the Frank H. Anderson classic De Vinne that was very popular and used extensively for sign painting. Of course, although it is hugely modernized FHA Sign DeVinne font shares many of the features of the original and particularly its clear bold strokes and its peculiar individual appearance as a whole. The designers preserved the retro look and even included in the family FHA Sign Painters DeVinne – a font that follows closely the lines and the letterforms of the vintage predecessor. However, they did add plenty of their own in this project like Shade and Shade25 fonts that add extrusion and outline to the base one, and FHA Sign DeVinne Shaded that is a combination of those two. Overall, FHA Sign DeVinne font family is extremely suitable for display purposes such as posters, headlines and, of course, signs.
