Modern Love font
Modern Love is a lovely new release by the well-established Resistenza type foundry, which is currently based in Valencia, Spain. Once again, Giuseppe Salerno and Paco González – the foundry’s founders, provide a very diverse and versatile brush drawn family that consists of various fonts. The idea behind this typeface is to demonstrate what would happen if the designers divert slowly from the generally used techniques and the established norms in calligraphy. It is an experiment of what would happen if a more natural way of writing is applied. The result is a very lively and expressive decorative family that will be suitable for many different applications like headlines, artwork, greeting cards, invitations, packaging, fashion and cosmetics related items, T-shirts, logos, brochures, etc.
To better understand the nature of the Modern Love font family it is perhaps to examine each of its four fonts separately. The first one is the Regular version where a pointed brush and walnut ink were used to draw the carefully and individually designed glyphs. This font sports a very playful and casual look. It works greatly when combined with Modern Love Rough with its rougher edges and Modern Love Grunge that simulates washed-out effect that would give a retro look wherever it is used. Those three fonts share a lot of common features like the 800 glyphs and the extras such as alternates, swashes and ornaments.
The fourth font – Modern Love Caps differs from the style of the other three but can complement them with great success. It is a quite simple looking hand drawn sans-serif that offers great legibility. For its creation, a pointed nib and Indian ink were used. This font contains 309 glyphs.
