Millie font by Kyle Benson (see also Benson Script font, Tide Sans font) is a slanted geometric script inspired by the Milwaukee Tools logo. Best suits to logos and titles, especially when used on about a 20 degree angle, though looking fine also horizontally placed. Millie was weighted by the conventions of broad nib calligraphy. As Kyle Benson explains, there were three rules of thumb when creating the typeface:
“1. Text must be clear and easy to read in headlines and titles.
2. Each letter must connect, unless connecting impedes on rule number 1.
3. Each weight must hold its space as if it were as heavy as the heaviest weight”.
The result of obeying the above rules is Millie font family – distinctive, versatile, and carefully detailed. It comes in two stylistic sets (Standard and Round), six weights each – Thin, Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold, and Bold. By using OpenType, many ligatures, and the two sets of stylistic alternates, Millie font family was developed to look great with any string of letters. You can use the Standard stylistic set for a disconnected script look, and the Round set – for even more connections and fluid script than standard. Millie Round takes the edge off a bit, giving the entire set a more approachable and versatile feel.
