Aria Pro typeface was designed in 2011 and has been winning awards ever since. Here is the impressive list: ATypI Letter.2 Winner – 2011, Communication Arts – 2012 Typography Annual Winner, Type exhibition by the Gutenberg Museum, Typographica Favourite Typefaces of 2011. All they came as recognition of this extraordinary typeface and its beautiful appearance. In fact, the inspiration behind this font came from an epitaph in a painting and the name reminds us of the immortal art of the opera. When we look at the Aria Pro, we can think of both those arts as it possesses the pleasant and expressive flow of an aria and the strong visual impact of the painting. But of course the strongest art influence in this font is that of the calligraphy.
Aria Pro is a decorative Serif characteristic with its high contrast, beautiful ornaments and carefully crafted letterforms. It comes in two weights – the splendid Regular and the calligraphic Italic. All in all Aria Pro comes with 533 glyphs. To increase the number of opportunities a substantial number of alternative glyphs, ligatures and a set of ornamental numbers are added.
Aria Pro font is designed by Rui Abreu – a very prolific author of memorable works. Once again Rui did remarkable job by conveying the spirit of the original letterforms from 19th century to us making this lyric font a great reminiscent of the gentle means of expression of the Romanticism. We could easily say that Aria Pro is yet another addition in the long line of very successful typefaces designed by Rui Abreu, parts of which are: Aria Text, Litania, Foral Pro, Orbe Pro, Signo.
As usual Rui did even more than just a typeface – take a look at the beautiful presentation of Aria:
