Mastadoni is a very fashionable and elegant modern font characteristic with its high vertical contrast, large x-height, stubby descenders and ascenders and small cap-height. It is very classy and stylish and has somewhat of the flavor of the 1970’s. It is a Didone style font. However, the techniques used in its creation account for much more than simply another member of this typestyle. In fact, it is highly specialized with only one weight but with none less than 5 optical grades each with their true Italics – from G1 which is perfect for very large sizes to G5 – very suitable for smaller ones. The grades could be freely used in various combinations in order the thins of type set at different point sizes to appear the same thickness – a great feature for magazine layouts and size specific logos. Overall, Mastadoni is your universal soldier when it comes to eye-catching headlines and titles.
Mastadoni type family, as always with Schizotype releases, is full of OpenType features like standard and discretionary ligatures, contextual alternates, fractions, swash alternates, stylistic sets, etc. Of course, as usual, the language support provided is quite rich.
Mastadoni typeface is released by the British designer Dave Rowland and his Schizotype. As naïve as it may sound, we could compare his typefaces to a manual of how to create fonts of completely different types and styles, as you can see for yourselves by following these links:
