Ebony font family is a very interesting new offer by Veronica Burian and Jose Scaglione. It took several years to “grow” from the initial sketches to a modern typeface but the waiting was definitely worth it. In fact, Ebony is a very intriguing hybrid, a masterful combination between the high legibility of the sans serifs of the humanist type and the fascinating nature of the grotesque fonts. This is achieved by a series of very curious designers’ decisions like the use of very strong curves, open terminals, generous counters, the top serif on “l”, etc. At the same time, it has a quirkier side too – a feature that make it quite distinctive and easily recognizable. Overall, the hybrid nature of Ebony makes it very multifunctional and suitable for very vast range of applications in bigger and smaller sizes both on screen and printed. You will find it perfect not only for newspapers, magazines and books but for advertising and branding too.
Ebony font family includes 18 weights – from Thin to Ultrablack each with its true Italics. The heavier weights, which are the icing of the cake of this typeface, will make any headline distinctive and quite noticeable whereas the very elegant and highly readable lighter ones are great for longer texts. The carefully and skillfully designed Italics deserve a special mention as they will beautify any project they are part of.
Ebony typeface is published by one of the most famous type foundries – TypeTogether. Here you can take a look at more of their wonderful releases:
