In the last two years we have been impatiently waiting for a new release by Nico Inosanto after the beautiful humanist sans serif Kleide and the formidable free Merry Scriptmas. And now for our delight, Nico released not one but two families at once – Rubis and its sans relative Rubiesque.
Rubis itself is a great looking serif font family that is most distinctive with the outstanding way it mixes classical calligraphic influences with the requirements of the modern digitalized era. It combines the contemporary practicality with a great amount of charm and elegance, a sharp and serious side with a romantic streak. In fact, the whole idea behind the creation of Rubis is to get a typeface with supreme legibility and fluidity that will be extremely suitable for longer texts. This is true especially for the Medium and Regular weights, whereas the Light and Black extremes are great for titles and headlines. All this makes Rubis the perfect typeface for editorial use.
When speaking about weights we should note that Rubis is supplied in 10 of them – Light, Regular, Medium, Bold and Black, all with their respective Italics. On top of that, this typeface is virtually packed with useful OpenType features like Ligatures, Fractions, Numerators, Denominators, Small Caps, Proportional Figures, Tabular Figures, Superscript, Ordinals, Scientific Inferiors, etc. The language support is formidable too with character sets for Western, Central and European languages.
