Stolzl Display is a very original modern geometric typeface designed by Mariya V. Pigoulevskaya and released by The Northern Block type foundry. It is inspired by the famous Bauhaus art school and style and is named after its only female master Gunta Stölzl – a great textile artist and a fundamental figure in the history of the school. Bauhaus was a symbol of the modernism and industrial design that promoted functionality and rationality. When looking at the Stolzl Display font we can immediately spot the links to that art style as it accentuates exactly on the same. There you will find the same love of the experiment, the same harmony between function and design, between form and rhythm. Based on the perfect combination of contrasting shapes, Stolzl Display is designed especially for use in headlines as well as titles and subtitles. The bravest (and most experienced) of you will surely try the light outlines for long text paragraphs – the result will be quite original though very specific and even extraordinary.
Stolzl Display typeface comes in six weights – Thin, Light, Normal, Regular, Medium and Bold each containing 480 characters. A lot of juicy additional extras are provided too, like alternative glyphs, manually edited kerning, plenty of OpenType features. As usual with Mariya Pigoulevskaya’s work, the font family is supplied with wonderful Cyrillic.
According to Mariya V. Pigoulevskaya, Stolzl Display is just the first member of the broader Stolzl font collection that is to be released by the end of this year. Judging by the first of the family, we presume it will be a great success!
