Escritura is a contemporary handwritten font family that has its roots deep in the Italian Renaissance and the chancery writing of that time. This, although formal, still bears the beauty of the masterpieces of this great era as even the examples of the more usual human activities of the time period, like writing (or “escritura” in Spanish) of documents, are still quite classy and elegant. Perhaps the most distinguishing features of the typeface are its great calligraphic appearance and especially its oblique crossbars and great asymmetrical undulating serifs which really make Escritura font unique. Other characteristic of the font is its great versatility. Originally designed for display and editorial purposes, it comes with text version for smaller sizes where the vertical proportions are taller and serifs – longer, in order to increase the space between the letters thus increasing the legibility. Overall, this flexible typeface could be used for a wide range of projects and especially where one-of-a-kind result must be achieved.
Escritura font family consists of five different weights in both text and display versions – Regular, Medium, Demi Bold, Bold and Extra Bold which altogether are connected in great typographic hierarchy. Each of them comes with its respective and quite unique Italics which are narrower and more condensed than the Roman version and are with 10° angle, all of which make it more vivid and energetic.
Escritura font family is a brainchild of the Portuguese type designer Ricardo Santos and this time is released by his own Vanarchiv type foundry.
